What is it all about ?

This blog will cover the setting for a new series of short stories.
There will be articles about the technology and the time line, the background of the setting and the current situation. There will be some references to existing works of fiction, like TV shows and novels, there will also be some reference to real space tech and real world organizations. A comparison based comment can often be the quickest way to make a point. For example; We have faster than light travel, but it is not like warp drive in Star Trek, it is in fact closer to that described in the Honor Harington books.

The setting in brief.

The time line diverges from reality in 1999, when a major event proves undeniably that aliens exist. A giant space ship crashes on Earth. The next 10 years see Humanity unite in the face of possible danger and develop the tech that we get from the crashed ship. Over the next 10 years we step out to develop the solar system, with outposts and industries. Then comes the giant leap, the first FTL ship built by Humans. The following 10 years is all about scouting the nearby stars with in 20 light years of Earth, and building up home defenses. The 2030s see the first wave of colonial expanse, as we settle on new worlds.  The game date is intended to be in the 2040s, after a few colonies have been established.
