History Lesson 5.2

Colonizing Teegarden.

In 2025 the serious work of colonizing Tee-B began. With an average equatorial temperature of +24c, and gravity of 0.8 G, it was almost perfect. The native life included vegetation and animals, odd but understandable to the science team. No intelligence above the level of crows was found.

After the space station was complete, crews moved to build the ground infrastructure of Haven-Hope, the first city. All the Earth's attention was on this one project. That is to say a lot of people were highly interested in it and a great deal of resources were devoted to it.  The entire new fleet of Outreach ships was committed to the project.

While infrastructure was being built on Tee-B, the inner planet, the station construction crew moved to Tee-C, the outer planet of the habitable zone. Although much colder with an average -47c temperature, and a gravity of 0.6 G, It was considered a serious site for future expansion.

Colonists began arriving at Haven-Hope in 2027, about 900 in the first year, and near that in each of the following years 3 years, so that by the end of 2030 the city's populations was around  2,800. People were not the only thing arriving, tons of cargo were sent, including a number of vehicles like Mule class cargo shuttles.

After 2030, the world was opened to the settlement of other sites.
Several major nations each funded a city. They used their own versions of the Outreach ships. While the UN-HHC turned its attention to other star systems. It continued to run supply trips, as promised,  to Haven-Hope.

It was not till 2033 that the first FFV (Frontier Farm Village) type of privet settlement as established on Tee-B. Many more followed until the year 2040. By this time most development interest was in other star systems.

Untold Story of Epsilon Eridani.

(( File is Classified Secret ))

Epsilon Eridani, is an orange star 10.5 light years from Earth. It is estimated to be less than a billion years old. Because of its relative youth, it has a high level of magnetic activity, with a stellar wind 30 times stronger than our Sun.

The Epsilon Eridani system includes two belts of rocky asteroids: at about 3 AU and 20 AU from the star. Also there is a small planet 3.3 AU from the star, about the size of Mars with a good magnetic field and gravity of 0.6 it also had a thin atmosphere. We named it Aegrit.

In 2015 Rangers found no life there, and the temperature was on average -66c. A follow up mission was ordered because of the high possibility of teraforming. In 2016 as a research station was set up on Aegrit. That is the extent of official documentation.

Also in 2016 a base was begun on E103, the largest asteroid in the nearby belt. As far as public records show, the system is nearly worthless. As far as the UN-EDF is concerned, the asteroid base is a key installation for the protection and preservation of humanity.  By 2026, E103 was a fully functional habitat and factory complex, able to build star ships. It was spun up to 0.6G and partly hollowed out for a huge park, to give the people some much needed green space. At the time, the crew was listed as 850 permanent, and 300 visiting.

The building of the base was something of an amazing feat, considering most of it was done by Ranger Establisher ships, with a speed of 1LY/week. Until the improved engines entered service in 2022, just getting to Epsilon Eridani was a 3.5 month trip.
